Working with composer Greg Karnilaw has always been a creative and satisfying experience. He is not only a skilled musician and composer, but has a sensitivity to emotion and storytelling that makes him an amazing collaborator. His compositions have consistently brought my film work up to a much higher level, and the beauty of his work has been noted by audience members and festival programmers alike.

This short is inspired by the work of Leo Rabkin, an amazing 92 year-old New York artist, who creates what he calls "nugatory divagations" using materials that might be viewed as worthless (nugatory) to create unexpected experiences off the beaten track (divagations). I love the sense of play and the tension between representation and abstraction where Leo's works seem precariously perched. Check out a recent piece about Leo's work in Art Critical: Rhinestones, Goggle Eyes and Flocking: Leo Rabkin’s Visual Poems, by Aimee Brown Price http://www.artcritical.com/2012/06/09/leo-rabkin/ for info about Rabkin's show, up until June 22nd, 2012 at the Luise Ross Gallery http://www.luiserossgallery.com/ Thanks to Leo for letting me play with his "toys for grown-ups." Greg Karnilaw's fantastic music, Sabina Hahn's playful animation, Juan Carlos Borrero's rich cinematography and Chris Arnold's percussive editing made it a joy to create this piece!

A short documentary about Leo Rabkin, whose work often takes the form of boxes full of "nugatory divagations," with a great score written & performed by Greg Karnilaw.
